School Education Books

School Education Books Available

The fourth in a series of five education books for 4th and 5th grades is now available from the California Water Awareness Campaign. The completed series will create a comprehensive look at the workings of the water industry within California's infrastructure. Correlations of these lessons to the California State Subject Area Standards are found in the book.

The books are $2 each or $6 for the set of four for water agencies, water districts and other campaign contributors and are free to teachers.

Book #1 - California's Water
Students will learn about California water sources, including surface water, groundwater and regional differences in rainfall. Lessons include information on water distribution, water demand and water conservation. Book #1 contains four lessons, teacher information and worksheet masters.

Book #2 - Water Sources
Book #2 takes a more in-depth look at surface and groundwater and the role reservoirs, canals and aqueducts play in California's water supply. The groundwater section includes lessons on underground storage, groundwater recharge and a diagram on groundwater basin. There is also a lesson on stretching the water supply that teaches students the things we can do to make our water supplies last longer. Book #2 contains lessons, teacher information and worksheet masters.

Book #3 - Water Use
Book #3 specifically covers water use in California,
explaining how water supplies are divided among urban users, the
environment and agriculture. It shows the difference in water use among
regions, such as why certain regions of the state allocate more water to
the environment, agriculture or urban use more than others.

Book #4: Water Use Efficiency
Water conservation is an important part of California's water supply picture. How can we continue to support a growing population, grow food and restore and protect the environment with a limited supply of water? The fourth educational book explores water conservation and the problems and solutions faced by farms, homes, businesses and the environment.

Book #5: Water Quality
Book 5, our newest book, covers water quality with a special emphasis on pollution and what individuals can do to protect the cleanliness of our water supply. Students will learn about a variety of methods that keep our water clean from this informative book.

Lesson plans in all books meet the teaching standards for science curriculum at the grade school level.
